Fall 2019: Trends I’m loving

I’m definitely not thrilled that summer is over, but new styles the changing seasons bring are always exciting!

This summer in New York City was unbearably hot and much rainier than usual, so I spent a lot of time in cropped tops and slinky dresses with an umbrella in hand. As the weather starts to cool down, I am definitely ready to add more variety to my wardrobe.

Lately, I have been gravitating towards a mix of new and old favorites and finding inspiration from tons of sources. I narrowed it down to five easily identifiable trends that can be dressed up or down.

Menswear

Menswear is a trend that seems to resurface every fall, and I can never get enough! I absolutely love the look of oxford shirts, tailored pants, thick wools and preppy plaids.

My most recent favorite is anything and everything from Rowing Blazers, a New York City-based modern take on old-school prep style. The brightly color alternatives to staples like oxford shirts and rugbies are such a fun way to get dressed for the office.

Athleisure

Ever since the release of Issue No. 4, I have been devouring Emily Oberg’s magazine Sporty & Rich. After nearly a year of obsessing over her @emilyoberg and @sportyandrich Instagram feeds, I am so happy to have a more in-depth look at her impossibly chic personal style.

An art director, tastemaker and the so-called “Martha Stewart of streetwear,” Oberg’s effortless, minimalist style is the envy of women (and men!) everywhere. Equal parts sexy and tomboyish, as-seen-on-Oberg outfits are beautiful and, most importantly, functional!

When you live in New York City, comfortable walking shoes are a must, especially when you have feet as flat as mine. I recently started investing more in quality sneakers (read more about that here).

Collegiate apparel (à la Princess Diana)

Is anyone else still obsessing over Hailey Baldwin’s Princess Diana-inspired spread in September’s Vogue Paris? I’m so in love with it that I even purchased it in print. (If you know me, you know that keeping print alive is important to me! I have been an avid magazine since age 12.)

This season, I will continue to pair collegiate crewneck sweatshirts with bike shorts and retro tube socks. It’s such a classic look that never goes out of style! Plus, any excuse to rep my alma mater is a good one!

Graphic t’s

Graphic t’s have been a wardrobe staple of mine since my early college days. After all, what college kid can be bothered to attend class in anything more than glorified pajamas?

As an adult, I love mixing different colors and designs with a variety of weights and textures; I especially love mixing high and low! For example, a vintage band t or Harley Davidson t looks killer with my silk skirt from Are You Am I.

Oversized fits

It’s rare that I feel comfortable in a pair of skinny pants; I prefer the look of baggier pants on my figure. During the colder months, I pair loose trousers and oversized cardigans with tiny tank tops and skin-tight dresses.
