Over the next three years Target Corp. will spend $7 billion to renovate more than 600 stores, according to WWD.

“[The stores] will look and function differently. They’ll be reconfigured with more space for fashion storytelling and table settings in home. They’ll be digitally connected,” the retail giant’s chairman and chief executive officer Brian Cornell tells WWD.

“Order pickup and bridal registry in 2018 will touch 250 stores — 600 by 2019, and that’s just the beginning.”

The renovations come on the heels of a “weak quarter,” according to KSTP.

During the past quarter, which includes the holiday season, Target’s profit fell 43 percent “with strong online sales failing to offset weakening business at its stores,” according to KSTP.

“Target’s stock tumbled more than 12 percent and rattled Wall Street, as shares in Walmart, Macy’s and other retailers fell as well.”

Cornell also tells WWD 2016 “was not our best year,” and explains that, not only will the corporation spend $7 billion on a capital investment program to combat fallen profits, it will also “sacrifice $1 billion in annual operating profit this year to grow sales faster and capture market share against better-performing rivals such as Walmart Stores Inc., as well as off-pricers such as TJ Maxx.”

The investments in part will go towards the launch of 12 brands within the next two years, according to WWD, that will represent more than $10 billion of Target’s sales. This is thanks to the success of Cat & Jack, a new children’s brand, that is expected to produce $1 billion in sales in 2017.

“The majority will be in Target’s home and fashion categories, which represent $26 billion in combined sales,” according to WWD.

When deciding which brands to launch, Cornell explains to WWD that the corporation really listened to consumer wants and needs.

“In some cases, it will be a new branch or a relaunch of an existing brand,” Cornell tells WWD.

“The consumer told us that some of our brands have gotten a little tired and a little bit old. We’ll go from a series of labels to a collection of brands. We now have a portfolio with a lot of labels but very few brands.”

On Monday, March 6, Target’s stock closed at $56.11, falling over 16 percent from the week before. Despite this downward trend, Cornell asks shareholders to “make an investment to build a strong company for the future,” according to WWD.

“Our goal today is to demonstrate that the investments we’re making are the right decisions for the long term.”

Though Target’s net earnings for the fourth quarter, which ended January 28, “plummeted 42.7 percent to $817 million from $1.4 billion a year earlier” and “sales for the three months declined 4.3 percent to $20.69 billion,” leaving the company with “an earnings drop of 18.6 percent for the full year, to $2.74 billion, on a sales decline of 5.4 percent, to $20.6 billion,” according to WWD, it found great success in their 32 small format stores.

Cornell tells WWD that “units sales per square foot are higher than average,” and because of this, “Target is ramping up the rollout with 30 new units this year with a goal of 100 set for 2020.”

While all 1,800 of Target’s stores “are within 10 miles of 85 percent of customers,” according to WWD, Cornell insists that the small format stores “expand the corporation’s footprint in in key urban areas and college campuses” in part because they are “customized for each community,” as opposed to the typical, full-line stores.

“In the last six months we’ve opened stores in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. You can expect to see more and more,” Cornell tells WWD.

“It’s time to accelerate this new format.”

When it comes to full-line stores, however, it is quality over quantity. Instead of opening in new locations, the corporation hopes to renovate “old and tired” stores that have not been updated in 10 years, according to WWD.

“Our supply chain has been a major focus,” Cornell tells WWD.

“We’re slow and we have too much inventory. We’re changing how we move product…We’ll operate with less inventory, less working capital and better shelf availability.”

Cathy Smith, Target Corp.’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, tells WWD the corporation “expects a low- to mid-single-digit decline in comparable sales and earnings per share of 80 cents to $1.” Smith also predicts earnings per share (EPS) of $3.80 to $4.20 in 2017.

“We’re positioned to deliver superior Return On Invested Capital over time,” Smith tells WWD. “Let me be clear, this will be a multiyear, multiphase program.”


By now most of you already know how obsessed I am with Poshmark, a website and app that allows you to sell new and pre-loved clothing, shoes, accessories and makeup to other users.

Fast fashion production is the second leading cause of pollution in the world, according to EcoWatch, so shopping secondhand plays an important role in conserving the environment. Plus, thrifting can be so fun. It is a great way to find super unique goodies for your home or wardrobe, and in my opinion it’s something we should all do more often. Thanks to Posh, I can enjoy all thrifting has to offer from my iPhone or laptop and connect with others’ who have similar closets to my own.

Over the past two months, I sold quite a few pre-loved pieces on Posh, and I was able to purchase a few things I’d been eyeing with my earnings. Needless to say, many of my newbies made it into my favorites for the month of February.

Oversized white fishnets: My first favorite is an awesome pair of oversized white fishnet stockings. Even though fishnets are almost a little too trendy right now, I honestly can’t get enough of them. For Christmas I received a thick pair of fishnet socks, and I had basic black fishnet stockings leftover from Halloween. But, I’ve been wearing both pairs to death, so I decided to invest in another earlier this month.

Because they don’t make as much of a statement as traditional fishnets do, this oversized white pair is perfect for daytime. I love the way they look with miniskirts, or peeking through ripped jeans. They definitely stand out without looking obnoxious, and they are so subtle that I don’t even feel weird about wearing fishnets in the middle of the day. Shop similar here.

Denim miniskirt: There’s nothing better for showing off a sweet pair of fishnets than an old school denim miniskirt. Via Posh, I found a pre-loved medium wash denim mini from Guess Jeans. I love pairing it with a basic white t-shirt or bodysuit, a chunky knit cardigan and black booties. Kyshadow burgundy palette: I also picked up Kylie Cosmetics’ Kyshadow palette in burgundy at an unbeatable price thanks to Poshmark. Bloggers and YouTubers have been raving about the quality of this palette, and I was definitely in the market for some new eye shadow, so I think this purchase was meant to be.

While I was considering another Naked palette, I needed a change of pace. And, when I saw that fellow blogger (and girl crush!) Lissy Roddy creates her signature warm eye look using Kylie’s burgundy palette, I knew I had to have it.

I’ve never really considered myself a #KylieCosmetics type of gal (in fact, I’ve never even owned a lip kit), but there’s something about her burgundy palette to which I am so drawn: the colors are absolutely gorgeous. Its warm nudes and browns make the best all-over lid colors; the deep oranges and reds work perfectly in the crease and on the lower lash line. I seriously cannot get enough of this palette!

For some reason I’ve always thought of myself as a cool-toned, gray and black eyeshadow kind of gal. Don’t get me wrong: I still absolutely love using my Naked Smoky palette for a night out, but Kylie’s burgundy palette is ideal for creating stunning daytime looks and even some more casual evening looks. $42, Kylie Cosmetics

Anastasia Beverley Hills Glow Kit in Ultimate Glow: My last Poshmark purchase was a highlighter palette from Anastasia Beverley Hills. All three highlighters I already own are creme formulas, and even though I love them, I have been really eager to try a powder one.

I spotted ABH pressed powder highlights on my last trip to Ulta, and they instantly caught my eye. Because I already own opal, golden and silvery highlighters, I wanted to add a rose gold hue to my collection, and this six-color collection features just that.

Amber Gold is a natural, warm rose with a gold luster, and like all the other shades in this set, it is creamy, blend-able and intensely luminous. I find that using a powder highlight, as opposed to a creme, is so much better for highlighting smaller areas (like the nose and cupid’s bow) because it allows you to choose the size of the applicator you use, and a smaller brush means more control.

While I love Amber Gold on my cheeks, White Sand, a warm beige, is ideal for creating that exclamation point down the nose; snow works really well along the brow bones and in the inner corners of the eyes. Honestly, there’s not one shade in this palette that I don’t love! #Obsessed. $45, Ulta

Buxom Full-on lipstick in Sydney: I am definitely guilty of stocking up on statement lipsticks and shying away from everyday pinks and nudes. This season I decided to take a break from deep reds and my signature flashy purples in favor of something a little more natural: a feminine, taupe-y mauve.

Buxom’s full-on lipstick is perfect because it moisturizes and plumps lips naturally, while doubling as a lipliner so the application process is always flawless. It also dries to a soft, velvety finish that blends evenly with your lips’ natural color, appearing effortless. $20, Sephora

Tarte Amazonian clay blush in Seduce: Even though I am a diehard Nars Orgasm gal, I wanted a blush that was a little less pink and more neutral. I am also a big fan of Benefit’s Rockateur, but that really is not the best for daytime because it is super sparkly and sultry; I needed a happy medium between the two.

Enter: Tarte’s Amazonian clay blush in Seduce. I’ve heard so many great things about Tarte’s Amazonian clay range, so I decided to pick this blush up after Christmas when I had a little extra spending money–and it really delivered. This blush is seriously everything I hoped it would be: a rich, pigmented nude with natural rosy undertones. $20, Sephora

First Aid Beauty oil-free matifying gel: Anyone who knows me knows that I live by Glossier’s “skin first, makeup second” motto. Although this is not a Glossier product, First Aid Beauty’s oil-free matifying gel does wonders for the skin.

It moisturizes, which is great because I always forget to moisturize otherwise; it mattifies oily skin so I never look greasy; it refines pores and even reduces redness for fresh, glowing skin–and, the best part, it lasts all day long! Though this gel sits really well under makeup, it is nice to wear on its own, too. Plus, a little really goes a long way with this product, so it is definitely worth the price. $30, Sephora

Do Less by Rachel Jonat: I received this book for Christmas and finally finished it earlier this month after being busy with readings for my grad classes. Do Less truly helped me organize my space by teaching me how to downsize my wardrobe, my workspace and beyond. This book is broken down into easy-to-read sections, so I plan on keeping it on my bedside table for quick access every time I need a refresher course in minimalism. $9.60, Amazon


Taking a cue from fellow blogger Mary Bordelon, I did some exploring on Polyvore to help me get out of a style rut. Dressing for spring has never been my favorite–at the risk of sounding completely basic, I totally prefer fall and winter style despite freezing temperatures.

That being said, it is still pretty cold in the Northeast, so most days this time of year I choose to sleep in rather than take an extra half our or so to put myself together. I’ve been ending up in leggings, a t-shirt and a blanket scarf way too much lately for my liking. This is what we fashion bloggers call a style rut.

Thankfully, Polyvore is a fun and inexpensive (read: FREE!) way to experiment with different fashion and beauty looks when it’s too cold to do anything else and you need a break from studying. In an attempt to get myself excited for spring style, I put together 17 (I know, I’m extra) Polyvore sets centered around both new trends and my all-time favorite pieces.

New trends include neutral lips paired with bold eye makeup, off the shoulder tops and dresses, statement sleeves and underwear as outerwear. Old favorites include vintage denim, cateye sunglasses, slip dresses and chemises, plain t-shirts, chunky knitwear, leather booties and moto jackets.

I also added sexy lace and fishnet stockings, as well as some silver and gold hardware (mostly in the form of jewelry) and feminine scarves to accent almost all my looks this season. While I tend to wear more white, beige and pale gray than I do black and other dark tones, I also love to pair black with beiges and tans no matter the time of year. Similarly, I tend to mix girly (slip dresses, bedroom hair, cheetah print, lace) with grunge (moto jackets, band tees, boyfriend jeans, statement jewelry), and this season is no exception.

One major piece I cannot wait to get my hands on this season is a denim jumpsuit–I definitely have my eyes on this number from Second Skin Overalls. And, I am hoping to add a champagne-colored slip dress to my collection sometime soon, too!

Lastly, I made sure to include several transition pieces, including scarves, stockings, sweaters and outerwear, because weather where I live tends to be pretty unpredictable.

When Glossier launched in 2014, it completely revamped the way women (especially Millennial women) see beauty products. Founded by Into The Gloss blogger Emily Weiss, Glossier (pronounced gloss-ee-ey) offers “beauty for real life” and lives by the motto “skin first, makeup second.”

Though all Glossier’s products are sold as separates, the company offers multiple kits, including Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 is skincare; Phase 2 is makeup.

Phase 1 includes Milky Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moisturizer, Balm Dotcom (a skin salve) and Perfecting Skin Tint, which comes in five different shades that remind me a ton of the five skin tone options for iOS emojis.

Phase 2 includes Boy Brow, a number-one bestselling brow gel, Stretch Concealer and Generation G, a matte lipstick. Boy Brow is available in four different natural shades, including clear, while stretch concealer is offered in the same five shades as the skin tint. Generation G comes in six collectable colors that flatter all complexions.

In June 2016 Glossier introduced Haloscope, its “dew effect” highlighter in the shades Quartz (pearl) and Topaz (a sun-kissed gold). Unlike any other highlighters on the market, Haloscope features a “dual-delivery formula” according to Glossier’s site.

“The outer halo is infused with genuine crystal extracts for all-day enlightenment, with a solid oil core of vitamin-rich moisturizers for a hydrated, dewy finish.”

Three months later the New York-based company launched The Supers, a collection of three skin serums. Super Glow revives dull skin; Super Pure eases redness, blemishes and breakouts, while Super Bounce replenishes tight, dehydrated skin.

Essentially, The Supers (which come in adorable, baby bottle-like containers) are essentially “supplements for your face: potent, fast-absorbing treatment serums packed with vital nutrients to bring your skin the boost it needs today,” according to the site.

Like I said, you can buy all three individually, but Glossier offers a $19 discount on the set of three, because “you’re not just a ‘skin type’—your needs change throughout the month, and your product lineup should help you adapt.”

Other notable Glossier products include flavored Bomb Dotcom (in cherry, rose, mint and coconut), two face masks (including Mega Greens Galaxy Pack to detox skin and Moisturizing Moon Mask to soothe dry skin) and the heavy-duty, yet lightweight Priming Moisturizer Rich, which launched last month.

Authentic Glossier skincare and makeup is only available through its official website, as well as at in its New York City showroom. Not only do these products really work, Glossier’s packaging–its aesthetic, if you will–is in a league of its own. Clean white containers with black italicized writing and powder pink (also known as “Millennial pink” and, of course, “Glossier Pink”) accents look perfect on bathroom counters (and Instagram feeds) across the globe.*

A couple months ago I taught myself how to use Pinterest (better late than never) and instantly became addicted. In fact, I already pinned close to 2,000 inspiring images, articles, recipes and DIYs to all my boards and completed five of my fav findings from the site. Winter tends to make people–including myself–a little restless, and there really is no better cure for cabin fever than working on a few beautiful and functional do-it-yourself projects.

As I continue to explore Pinterest, I will most definitely be updating this list a few times over. I cannot wait to get started on some of the stunning makeup tutorials the site has to offer. But for now, the following are the five best DIYs to hit my feed. Be sure to follow my boards for instant updates!

Coconut-rose body scrub is almost too pretty to use! I love displaying mine on the bathroom counter in a simple ceramic bowl.

Coconut-rose body scrubNot only does this body scrub smell amazing, it is 100 percent natural AND it actually works. Coconut oil moisturizes skin, while pink Himalayan salt exfoliates, leaving my entire bod feeling smooth and silky. In addition to the hydration and salt your skin craves, this scrub includes rose oil, which tones and tightens skin, reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks. As with all beauty products that contain coconut oil, you should only make this scrub with organic, extra virgin coconut oil–otherwise, you’ll end up with clogged pores and breakouts.

Hair-thickening mask: This is another all-natural beauty product–can you tell I have a type? I don’t always take the greatest care of my mane, so it has definitely thinned out over the last couple years. Coconut oil is my go-to hair treatment once a week when I have time to pamper myself, but I wanted to see what else the world of Pinterest had to offer my tresses.

I quickly discovered this 10-minute thickening mask that combines castor oil, coconut oil and honey. In addition to promoting hair growth, this mask also leaves hair feeling soft and looking shiny. And, after I did a little research, I discovered that castor oil, its main ingredient, also promotes eyebrow and eyelash growth. What more could a gal want?

Cereal box organizersOver the years I’ve accumulated a ton of magazines and journals, making this DIY a must-do for me. As my collection grows over the years, I will definitely be recreating variations of this project–this link alone offers 15 different ways to turn cereal boxes into perfect space-saving storage containers for magazines, journals, folders and books.

Brass hoop earrings with suede laceSo, this one isn’t technically a DIY (it’s a link to an Etsy shop), but instead of purchasing these earrings, I decided to make my own. A quick trip to AC Moore for some brass hoops and suede lace was all it took to create a super unique pair of statement earrings.

These babies may seem like pricey vintage jewelry (aka my motif), but in reality I made them in half an hour and for under $20. I absolutely love pairing them with a plain white t-shirt and blue jeans for a casual, yet polished daytime or weekend look.

Cucumber-avocado smoothieI am a total sucker for a green smoothie, and this recipe offers a unique spin on the usual spinach/kale blends. Don’t get me wrong, spinach and kale smoothies are great, but sometimes I need a change. Enter: the cucumber-avocado smoothie.

The base ingredients, i.e., cucumber and avocado, combine to create a creamy, yet refreshing texture, while lime and cilantro give the smoothie a zesty twist, making it the perfect micronutrient-rich post-gym or afternoon pick-me-up. I will definitely be adding this recipe to my weekly wellness regimen. For an extra nutrition boost, I may try adding a cup of spinach–which is virtually tasteless in smoothies–to the smoothie the next time I whip it up.
